Located in the Indochinese peninsula, Vietnam looks like an S often compared to a dragon. Traditionally there are three major regions of the North (Hanoi), Centre (Hue), South (Ho Chi Minh City - Saigon) that any traveler crosses in one direction or the other. History, however, is written as a march to the south by the conquest of Champa and Khmer kingdoms of which there are still many traces. The culture was in the twentieth century influenced by the French and later in the South, by the American presence during the time of the Vietnam war.
Based on my own experience of this History, I've started to photography Vietnam in 1995, at the time of renewal (Doi Moi) that allows the country, communist at the political level to have a liberal economy. My images witnessed this transformation with an empathy to the people and the startling diversity of ethnic groups that make up this country.
